Vitaliano Aguirre is Duterte’s secretary of justice

Lawyer Vitaliano Aguirre will be appointed secretary of justice by incoming president Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, GMA News Ian Cruz has reported.

Aguirre himself made the announcement on Wednesday night before reporters covering the next chief executive.

He is Duterte's classmate at the San Beda College of Law. They are also brothers in the Lex Talionis fraternity.

Aguirre was the lead legal counsel in the Hubert Webb case. He was also a private prosecutor with the prosecution team in the impeachment trial of the late former Chief Justice Renato Corona in 2012.

He quit the panel after he was cited for contempt by the impeachment court after he covered his ears while Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago scolded the prosecution panel during one of the impeachment hearings.

He apologized to Santiago and was admonished by the Senate impeachment court. —NB, GMA News
