Duterte set to attend Thanksgiving party in Cebu

President-elect Rodrigo Duterte is expected to leave Davao City on Wednesday and fly to Cebu City to attend a private thanksgiving party. This will be the first time he will leave his bailiwick after almost a month.

Duterte remained in Davao City since election day on May 9, where he has been receiving supporters and well-wishers. He did not attend his own proclamation as elected President in Congress last week.

A source of GMA News told Ian Cruz that a thanksgiving party will be held Wednesday night in Cebu and hosted by his supporters.

In a text message to GMA News Online, Duterte’s executive assistant Christopher "Bong" Go said media coverage may not be allowed during the party.

“Ma’am, baka no coverage,” he said.

Duterte earlier announced that he will no longer grant media interviews and press conferences. All announcements will be made through state-owned People's Television Network (PTV-4).

During the campaign period, Duterte visited Cebu four times including a meeting with his former wife Elizabeth Zimmerman for her birthday celebration.

Family members, including his son Baste, Zimmerman and daughter, Sara, also went around the province in a caravan called Byaheng Du30 campaigning for Rodrigo.

Another trip was marked by the announcement of support by a local political party, One Cebu, who withdrew its support for Vice President Jejomar Binay to endorse Duterte.

The President-elect earned over a million votes in the province.

Duterte's roots can be traced to Danao City, Cebu where his father Vicente Duterte served as mayor.
