Duterte appoints musician RJ Jacinto as adviser on ICT, economy


Musician and businessman Ramon “RJ” Jacinto has been appointed as Presidential Adviser on Economic Affairs and Information Technology Communications with the rank of Undersecretary, Malacañang announced on Thursday.

Jacinto was a strong supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte during the campaign and even composed a campaign jingle for him.

Jacinto founded the RJ Group more than 50 years ago.  His father, Don Fernando Jacinto, founded Jacinto Steel and Iligan Integrated Steel Mills, both now known as National Steel.

The new economic adviser's grandfather was the founder of the Philippine Bank of Commerce, the first Filipino-owned private bank.

Other appointees

Meanwhile, also appointed to a government post is lawyer Lanee Cui-David, a former lawyer of businesswoman Janet Lim-Napoles, the alleged mastermind of the controversial P10-billion pork barrel scam.

Cui-David was named the deputy commissioner of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), along with Jesus Clint Aranas.

Appointed as Presidential Adviser on Military Affairs is General Arthur Tabaquero, and to the post of Undersecretary for Finance, Ammunitions, Installations and Materials of the Department of National Defense is Raymundo De Vera Elefante.

Meanwhile, Gamaliel Cordova was re-appointed commissioner of the National Telecommunications Commission. — VVP, GMA News
