Duterte gives Leyte mayor 24 hours to surrender over alleged drug links

President Rodrigo Duterte has given Mayor Rolando Espinosa of Albuera, Leyte and his son 24 hours to surrender over their alleged involvement in drug trafficking, Malacañang said Monday.

“Today, President Duterte demanded the surrender of Mayor Ronaldo  Espinosa Sr., of Albuera, Leyte and his son, Kerwin Espinosa, on the grounds of drug-trafficking and coddling, within 24 hours," presidential spokesman Secretary Ernesto Abella said.

“Otherwise, an order of ‘shoot on sight’ will be given if they resist and endanger the lives of arresting police officers,” he added in a statement.

Reports say about P1.9 million worth of 237 grams of suspected shabu were recovered by authorities in a buy-bust operation last Thursday near the houses of the Espinosas.

Arrested during the operation were Mayor Espinosa’s two bodyguards and three employees.

A newspaper report earlier said Mayor Espinosa had gone on leave. —NB, GMA News
