Bato vows to investigate De Lima's driver

Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa vowed to look into the affairs of the driver of Senator De Lima, after President Rodrigo Duterte's allegations into drug links on Wednesday.

"To satisfy you, I wil conduct an investigation," Dela Rosa told reporters when pressed on the issue.

The PNP chief initially said he did not want to meddle in the issue, saying the PNP had no knowledge of the information disclosed by Duterte.

"Sa ngayon 'di kami nakikialam, baka mamaya gawing personal issue yan against us eh haharap pa naman kami sa Senado mahirap yun," he said.

The Senate committee on justice and human rights chaired by De Lima is set to conduct a hearing on the spate of killings of drug suspects on August 22 and 23. Dela Rosa will attend the probe.

On Wednesday, Duterte alleged that a certain lady senator was having an affair with her driver. The president added that the driver had links to illegal drugs. Duterte later named De Lima as the official.

Dela Rosa believes Duterte's information is reliable.

"Maraming source si President," he said.

Dela Rosa said the PNP will have no choice but conduct its probe if the President would order them to.

"Gagawin namin ang trabaho namin dahil trabaho namin yan eh," he said.

De Lima, for her part, slammed Duterte's remarks as "foul." —JST, GMA News
