Pagasa to put up tornado warning system

The state weather bureau on Monday announced that it was putting up a tornado warning system. The move came days after several tornadoes damaged houses in Central Luzon. Radio dzBB reported that the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) also advised residents in western Luzon to expect more tornadoes. Science Undersecretary Graciano Yumul Jr. said that the tornado season usually lasts from July to September and that tornadoes this year have been more powerful and destructive. Yumul said this is likely due to the abnormal weather patterns and the monsoon, as well as climate change. On Aug. 23, a tornado damaged at least 30 houses in four villages in San Miguel town in Bulacan province. It was the second such incident to hit the area in two weeks. Another tornado destroyed 27 houses in nearby San Rafael town on Aug. 8. - GMANews.TV
