Bongbong Marcos’ votes show no more Marcos trauma —Duterte

The number of votes that Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. received in the recent elections shows that there is no more national "trauma" as regards the dictatorship of his father and namesake, whose scheduled burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani is now the subject of vehement protests.

President Rodrigo Duterte made the remark as he again tackled persistent questions on the propriety of burying the late Marcos at the heroes' cemetery when his administration was marked by allegations of massive corruption and human rights violations.

“Tingnan mo pagtakbo ni Bongbong. Iilan diperensya lang sila, tsaka 200,000. Tapos sabihin ninyo na it’s still fresh? Even Bongbong Marcos was… Sabi niya, dinaya siya. Baka kung hindi siya dinaya, talagang manalo siya,” Duterte told reporters.

“Well, even then I said the number is a very minimal--if it’s indication to you that there is no more such thing as a Marcos trauma just look at the results of the election. It will tell you that… Si [Vice President] Leni [Robredo] is naghabol sila… ” he added.

Vice President Leni Robredo won the election over Bongbong Marcos by only more than 200,000 votes.

Duterte said he did not care if those who are protesting his decision to allow the didn't see the former dictator as a hero, dismisses such views as mere politics.

“They are contesting kung hero ba si Marcos, wala akong pakialam. Whether hero siya o hindi, pagka sundalo diyan siya. ‘Yung hero hero, pulitika na ‘yan eh,” Duterte said.

“Ngayon, sabi hindi siya hero. Who are we to say that? Wala naman tayong panahon na giyera eh. Who are we to dispute? Sa mga taong, opisyal nagbigay sa kanya ng medalya. So why are you insisting na hindi siya hero [na] totoo?” he added.

Duterte has repeatedly said that Marcos deserved a hero’s burial because he was a soldier and a president, whether he was a good one or not.

“Bakit pa ako mag-dilly-dally, ibang presidente ayaw? Hero, hero. Hindi hero? Eh ‘di hindi. Sundalo, oo. Kung magaling siya na presidente, it depends. Almost half of the country says that he was a good president," Duterte said.

"Lalo na mga Ilokano. O ‘di nasasaktan sila nitong ginagawa ngayon. So hindi nahi-heal ‘yung… Lahat ng Ilocano, sikreto lang, may galit ‘yan,” he added. —NB, GMA News
