Metro Manila police placed on full alert after Davao City explosion

The National Capital Region Police Office placed all PNP units in Metro Manila on full alert status after an explosion tore through a popular night market in Davao City on Friday.

According to Chief Superintendent Oscar Albayalde, all five police districts in the metropolis have been informed of the alert status.

"Full alert status is hereby declared until further notice," Albayalde said in a text message.

Checkpoint operations in the capital region have also been intensified.

Security will also be made more stringent at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, ports, bus terminals and malls, radio dzBB reported.

"You are hereby likewise directed to conduct accounting of all your personnel and to maximize visibility in all vital installations, malls and places of convergence," read Albayalde's text to NCRPO officials and Metro Manila's district directors.

"Moreover, initiate 24-hour random checkpoints within your respective areas of responsibility," he added.

Before the NCRPO's declaration of full alert status, Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista directed the QC Police District to go on heightened alert, set up security check points and secure vital installations in the city. -NB, GMA News
