Bongbong confident SC will allow father’s hero’s burial amid extended stay order

Former senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. sees the extension of the status quo ante order (SQAO) as a positive indication that the Supreme Court (SC) will grant their request to allow the hero's burial of his father.

"Ako ay nakakatiyak na habang tumatagal ang pag-aaral tungkol sa isyu na ito, tuluyang makikita ang totoong karapatan ng isang pangulo, ng isang sundalo na ilibing sa Libingan ng mga Bayani," Marcos told reporters as he joined his father's supporters holding vigil outside the SC compound in Manila on Tuesday.

SC spokesperson Theodore Te earlier announced that magistrates have decided to extend to November 8 the SQAO on the Defense Department's preparations on the burial.

The high court was scheduled to make a decision on Tuesday regarding the burial of the former president at the heroes' cemetery after the SQAO expired.

Marcos thanked their supporters for their continuous campaign for the interment of the former president at the heroes' cemetery.

He also thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for his continuing support to the burial.

"When I ran for office in the last elections, I ran under a platform of unity and this show of support for the burial of my father at the Libingan ng mga Bayani is a continuation of that campaign for unity," Marcos said in a separate statement.

"We also would like to thank again President Duterte for continuing to support this unifying and healing effort to bury my father at the Libingan ng mga Bayani," he said. — ALG/RSJ, GMA News
