Ronnie Dayan arrested in La Union

Ronnie Dayan, former security aide of Senator Leila de Lima, was arrested in La Union on Tuesday morning.

Senior Superintendent Leo Francisco of the La Union Police Provincial Office said Dayan will be transported to Manila and will be presented to the media by Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa at 4 p.m. in Camp Crame.

Initial information said Dayan was arrested by joint elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-La Union, Provincial Police Office La Union, Provincial Police Office Pangasinan, and the Bacnotan police station.

Dayan was arrested in Sitio Turod, Brgy San Felipe in San Juan town.

Justice Undersecretary Erickson Balmes, citing information from CIDG director Chief Supt. Roel Obusan, also confirmed to reporters that Dayan is now under police custody.

A P1-million reward has been offered for the arrest of Dayan, who was ordered arrested after he skipped the investigation by the House of Representatives on the illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison that allegedly benefitted De Lima.

De Lima, a former Justice secretary, had recently admitted that she and Dayan had an affair.

Dayan is also accused of collecting drug money from NBP inmates for De Lima.

De Lima on Tuesday refused to be interviewed regarding Dayan’s arrest, but said she will issue a statement later in the day.

Pressed to comment if she believes Dayan surrendered, De Lima said: “Anything is possible. I have various scenarios in mind.” —with reports from Amita Legaspi, Tuesday Niu, Virgil Lopez and Kathrina Charmaine Alvarez/ALG/KBK/KG, GMA News
