+63 NET RATING

Duterte maintains ‘very good’ satisfaction rating —SWS

President Rodrigo Duterte maintained a “very good” net public satisfaction rating among Filipinos for the fourth quarter of 2016, according to the latest Social Weather Stations survey.

Poll results, first published on BusinessWorld Online, showed that the satisfaction rating of the President was placed at +63 dropping by only one point compared to his rating in September of +64.

Seventy-seven percent of the 1,500 adults nationwide who participated in the survey said they are satisfied with the performance of the president, 13 percent are not, while 10 percent are undecided.

Moreover, Mindanao gave the highest rating to the President, with an “excellent” mark, despite his rating in the area went down by 11 points compared to the last survey.

SWS classifies net satisfaction ratings of at least +70 as “excellent”; those +50 to +69 as “very good”; +30 to +49, “good”; +10 to +29, “moderate”; +9 to -9, “neutral”; -10 to -29, “poor”; -30 to -49, “bad”; -50 to -69, “very bad”; as well as -70 and below, “execrable.”

Cussing

Meanwhile, the respondents were also asked if they agree that Duterte’s cussing affects the country’s relationship with foreign officials.

Fifty-one percent of them agreed to this, 33 percent did not, while 17 percent were undecided.

Palace is grateful

Malacañang on Thursday said that Duterte hopes that Filipinos will support him unceasingly as he tries to solve the country's problem.

Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar in a statement said that the administration is grateful to the public for giving the President a "very good" net satisfaction rating for two consecutive Social Weather Stations surveys.

He added that the support for the administration will serve as inspiration for Duterte to "redouble his energy to be true to his oath of office and fulfill his promise of getting rid of drugs, crime and corruption in our society."

Error margins, headlines

The survey, which was conducted from December 3-6, has sampling error margins of ±3 points for national percentages, ±4 for “Balance Luzon” as well as ±6 points each for Metro Manila, the Visayas and Mindanao.

Headlines during that time include Duterte having a phone call with US President-Elect Donald Trump, the arrest of gambling tycoon Jack Lam, and the resignation of Vice President Leni Robredo from the Cabinet. —KG, GMA News
