Duterte, Singapore PM Lee agree to pursue fight vs. terrorism, illegal drugs

President Rodrigo Duterte and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong have agreed to pursue the fight against terrorism and illegal drugs, both being their areas of mutual cooperation, Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. said.

“We talked a lot about the areas of mutual cooperation, particularly the field of the fight against illegal drugs. These are the basic things we both agreed we want to pursue,” Yasay was quoted as saying in an Unang Balita report by GMA News’ Jam Sisante on Friday.

In a state banquet prepared by Singaporean President Tony Tan Keng Yam on Thursday night, Duterte praised the cooperation between the Philippines and Singapore on political issues while respecting each other’s independence.

“We work closely on political issues, pursuing principled positions on the rule of law in the peaceful settlement of disputes,” Duterte said.

“We reaffirm, respect an independence and the non-interference in the internal affairs of the states,” he added.
