Duterte meets Jee Ick Joo widow in Malacañang

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday met with the widow of kidnap-slay victim Jee Ick Joo in Malacañang.

Duterte and Choi Kyung Jin, wife of the slain South Korean businessman, were joined by South Korean ambassador Kim Jae Shin.

During the meeting, Choi covered her head in a shawl and wore sunglasses.

According to presidential spokesperson Secretary Ernesto Abella, Duterte assured Choi that justice will be served in the case of her slain husband.

"The President gave his assurance to the widow of slain South Korean businessman that justice would be swiftly served, and that their personal safety would be assured," Abella said.

The meeting came after Duterte expressed his anger towards the cops involved in Jee's killing after he was arrested under the guise of an anti-illegal drugs operation in October 2016.

"Galit ako ibig sabihin kasi pati ako napahiya," Duterte said in a press conference early Monday.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has also suspended anti-illegal drugs operation on orders of Duterte.

PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa had said that at least four policemen, including Anti-Illegal Drugs Group members Superintendent Rafael Dumlao III and Senior Police Officer 3 Ricky Sta. Isabel, have been tagged in Jee's abduction and murder.

Dumlao and Sta. Isabel are being held at the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame, where Jee was allegedly brought and killed by his captors. —ALG, GMA News
