Duterte: Don't be surprised if 'criminal' cops are killed one by one

President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday warned erring cops who defied orders to go to Basilan that they would be killed if they continue with their illegal activities after their dismissal.

In an interview with reporters on Tuesday in Malacañang, Duterte said that he would order the dismissal of the policemen who chose not go to Basilan. Last week, only 53 out of 310 policemen showed up for the flight that would take them to the province.

“They should be subjected to summary dismissal, and I have requested the police to form particularly a squad at bantayan itong mga pulis na alis na sa trabaho. Most of them, iyong mga ninjas, kriminal, so they are high in the list. Do not be surprised if they are killed because they are wanted and so are the police who are dismissed for committing crimes,” he said.

Philippine National Police chief Dir. Gen. Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa said he has signed the dismissal order for some 200 policemen.

The purge comes after the death of South Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo, who was allegedly abducted by anti-drug policemen from his home in Pampanga. Investigation showed that he was killed right inside the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame, prompting Duterte to order Dela Rosa to suspend police anti-drug operations because of corruption.

Duterte said scalawags in the police force were likely to continue their illegal activities.

“Kapag nawala iyan sa trabaho, they will continue their plunder. They will continue with their crime. Meron talagang taga-silip sa kanila from time to time. Kasi ito mawawalan na ng trabaho, pulis na nga, kriminal pa, mas lalo na kung hindi na ito police. Markahan ko talaga ito sila,” he said.

He also said policemen who leave the service to go into the drug trade would be special targets.

“And I want to warn them, I will not spare you. Mauuna talaga kayong mamatay. Kapag nagkamali kayo, mauuna talaga kayong mamatay. Sigurado iyan. Mabubiyuda talaga ang asawa mo. Huwag ninyong lokohin ang gobyerno. Do not even try. Do not even think about it, na akala ninyo wala na kayo sa trabaho so wala na iyong malaking pera na malaki, sasakay na naman kayo sa droga. Ah special target kayo,” he said.

“I’m warning the public especially the media right now, do not be surprised if they are killed one of these days—one by one.” —JST, GMA News
