PHL gov‘t, MILF name new Malaysian facilitator in peace talks

The implementing panels of the government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) have named a new third party facilitator.

In a joint statement following their special meeting in Malaysia on Tuesday, GPH and MILF announced that Dato Kamarudin bin Mustafa assumed the role as the Malaysian Third Party Facilitator and/or Special Adviser.

GPH panel chairperson Irene Santiago and MILF panel chairperson Mohagher Iqbal signed the statement.

Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Secretary Jesus Dureza told GMA News Online in a text message that both panels also signed the new Terms of Reference for the new third party facilitator.

Santiago and Iqbal also said that the GPH and the MILF signed a certification extending the mandaes of the International Monitoring Team (IMT) and the Ad Hoc Joint action Group (AHJAG) until March 2018.

Both parties also agreed to set the next meeting in the Philippines, but details have yet to be released. — MDM, GMA News
