Brillante Mendoza back as director of Duterte’s 2nd SONA

Acclaimed director Brillante Mendoza will once again direct President Rodrigo Duterte's second State of the Nation Address on July 24.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar confirmed Mendoza's designation in a Quick Response Team report on Wednesday.

Mendoza also directed Duterte's first SONA last year, which can be remembered for using low angle shots and dimmer lighting --- a break from the traditional coverage of the event.

The director has been recognized in various local and international award-giving bodies for his films.

Mendoza was awarded Best Director in the 2009 Cannes Film Festival for his movie "Kinatay."

His film, "Ma' Rosa," also gave actress Jacklyn Jose her Best Actress Award from the same film festival last year.  —Erwin Colcol/NB, GMA News
