P11.92M worth of crops damaged by Gorio, DA says

Typhoon Gorio's damage to agriculture now stands at P11.92 million, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said Tuesday.

In a Facebook post, the agency's Disaster Risk Reduction Management Center said agricultural  areas affected by the typhoon enhanced by Southwest Monsoon and tropical storm Huaning has so far totaled to 2,580 hectares with an estimated volume production loss of 484 metric tons in Regions I and III and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

The typhoon and monsoon have affected rice, corn and high value crops, according to the DA.

It added that incidences of damage in the agri-fishery sector have not been reported in Regions II, IV-A and V.

"The affected RFOs (regional field offices) still have sufficient buffer stocks available for distribution to calamity stricken areas, particularly to those farmers who opt to replant immediately," the DA said.

The DA said that its regional offices are continuously monitoring the situation on the ground and started field validation to assess damages. —NB, GMA News
