‘Parojinog allies’ surrender almost 300 guns to Ozamiz City cops after raid

Almost 300 guns have been surrendered to the Ozamiz City Police Station days after the drug raid on the homes of the Parojinog family, Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa said Wednesday.

“Two hundred ninety-one long firearms at short firearms now deposited and surrendered to Ozamiz Police Statio,” Dela Rosa told reporters.

Of the number, 226 short firearms and 40 short firearms were from private individuals while 17 short firearms and eight long firearms are from the barangay captains.

Asked if those who surrendered their guns were allies of the Parojinogs, Dela Rosa said he believed so.

“Presumably (allies sila) dahil nagsurrender sila e. Ibig sabihin natakot sila na baka sila naman ang next na conduct-an ng operations ng PNP,” he said.

A total of 15 people were killed in the clash which took place while policemen were serving search warrants on homes belonging to the Parojinog family around 2:30 a.m., Sunday.

Among those killed were Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog; his wife, Susan; and his brother, Provincial Board Member Octavio Parojinog.

Misamis Occidental provincial police office chief Senior Superintendent Jaysen de Guzman earlier said the police officers were met by a volley of gunfire as they were about to enter the Parojinogs' compound.

He said that after an almost two-hour clash, the police officers were able to breach the Parojinog's houses, but was still met by resistance from the mayor's group.

Vice Mayor Nova Princess Parojinog and her brother, Reynaldo Jr, were among those arrested. They were brought to Camp Crame Monday morning and underwent inquest proceedings Tuesday noon. —NB, GMA News
