PNP open to bringing media along on operations

The Philippine National Police expressed openness Wednesday to the suggestion of President Rodrigo Duterte to bring the media along on police operations.

“At the ouset, the PNP is open to media presence and participation in police operations with their safety as our primodial concern,” PNP spokesperson Chief Superintendent Dionardo Carlos said in a text message.

He added media have been included in previous police operations.

“The PNP has been accommodating media presence,” he said.

In an interview with reporters, Duterte said the police should bring the media along on its operations .

“I suggest to the police to bring hordes of media along on their operations. Dadalhin mo lahat ng media. Sige, maglinya kayo diyan. Tignan ninyo at we will try to make an arrest and see what develops,” he said.

He said this is to allow the media to see the operation from beginning to end.

"O kayo ang mabaril, eh ‘di, ayaw pa kaya ninyong maniwala na walang mga baril ‘yan. Hala sige. Next time, I’m ordering. Now, this is an order: Bring the media at paunahin mo sila so that they can get the story from the beginning to the end," he said.

Several sectors have been questioning the police operations particularly after the deaths of  KIan Loyd delos Santos during the One Time, Big Time operation in Sta. Quiteria, Caloocan City and Carl Angelo Arnaiz during an alleged follow-up operation after a robbery incident also in Caloocan. — Amita Legaspi/RSJ/KVD, GMA News
