Malacañang, however, has yet to provide an official statement on the matter.
Republic Act 10952 signed on October 2 and released by Malacañang on October 4 stated that the grassroots polls would be moved from October 23, 2017 to the second Monday of May 2018.
After that, the next barangay polls will be held two years later, in 2020, and every three years after that.
Meanwhile, all barangay officials will remain in office until their successors have been duly elected next year, unless they are removed or suspended.
The House of Representatives on September 25 had adopted Senate Bill 1584 to amend House Bill 6308 to postpone the barangay and SK elections to May 2018. — with Erwin Colcol/MDM, GMA News
