Duterte OKs gov’t satellite network

President Rodrigo Duterte has given his go signal to launch the government satellite network in 2018.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Martin Andanar said Duterte agreed to launch the GSN during the 20th Cabinet meeting last night.

Andanar said that once all necessary legal work and other bidding matters are ironed out, the PCOO can roll out the GSN in 42,000 barangay halls and all PCOO attached agencies nationwide in six months.

“The Government Satellite Network (GSN) can transmit government video, image, audio and data content to the islands and hinterlands of the Philippines and the rest of world using [advanced] satellite and IPTV technology,” Andanar said.

“It also provides two way or multiple 4k tele-conference communication, internet delivery capability and multiple tv channels,” he added. — Trisha Macas/RSJ, GMA News
