Duterte appoints new Coast Guard commandant

President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Elson Hermogino as the new commandant of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

Hermogino was appointed January 4, replacing Commodore Joel Garcia, officer-in-charge of the PCG.

Hermogino is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1985 and currently the Maritime Safety Service Commander, said PCG spokesperson Captain Armand Balilo.

“[The] PCG will support Hermogino and thanks the President for the appointment of a regular Commandant,” Balilo said. — Kathrina Charmaine Alvarez/RSJ, GMA News
