House panel OKs move to invite Noynoy Aquino to Dengvaxia probe

The House Committee on Good Government has decided to invite former President Benigno Aquino III to its next hearing on the Dengvaxia controversy.

Surigao Del Sur Representative Johnny Pimentel told GMA News Online that Buhay party-list Representative Lito Atienza moved for the committee to invite the former Chief Executive.

The motion was seconded and approved during the committee hearing on Bureau of Corrections-Tagum Agricultural Development Corp. deal on Wednesday morning.

It was in April 2016 during the term of Aquino when the vaccination program began, just a month before the 2016 elections.

Aquino also attended the Senate inquiry into the same issue last December, where he said he would “try and allay certain fears” on the controversy.

The House panel, together with the Committee on Health, resumed its inquiry into the matter on Monday.

The hearing was attended by incumbent Health Secretary Francisco Duque III and former Health Secretary Janette Garin. —NB, GMA News
