Bato to critics plotting to topple Duterte: Manigas kayo, mag-giyera tayo

FORT DEL PILAR, Baguio City — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa on Saturday posed another challenge to critics of President Rodrigo Duterte's administration.

Dela Rosa, during the 2018 Philippine Military Academy Alumni Homecoming, was asked whether he thinks the "opposition" is powerful enough to topple down the Duterte administration.

"Manigas sila, hindi nila kayang pabagsakin yung Presidente na elected by the people and yung trust rating is 83 percent, manigas sila, I tell you, you want to bring down Duterte administration? Over my dead body, giyera tayo, kung gusto niyo giyera," Dela Rosa told reporters in an ambush interview.

Asked who he was issuing his challenge to, Dela Rosa said: "Kung sinong gustong magpabagsak sa Duterte adminstration, giyera tayo, hinahamon ko kayo, giyera tayo kung gusto niyong giyera, gusto ninyo ng coup d'état, mag-coup d'état kayo. Giyera tayo, 'wag niyo kong takutin," he added.

Opposition Senators including Antonio Trillanes IV and Leila de Lima have been critical of Duterte, particularly his campaign against illegal drugs, which has already seen the killings of thousands of drug suspects since he assumed office in 2016.

The International Criminal Court has already started its preliminary examination on the allegations that Duterte committed crimes against humanity in connection to the administration's war on drugs.

The preliminary examination will determine whether a full investigation is warranted. — MDM, GMA News
