Gov’t to roll out anti-fake news Government Satellite Network

Communications Secretary Martin Andanar on Saturday said the planned implementation of the government satellite network (GSN) this year can be used to fight the spread of fake news.

"Ito po ay malaking panlaban din sa disinformation, misinformation or fake news," Andanar said in an interview on state-run Radyo Pilipinas dzRB.

The PCOO eyes to roll out GSN in 42,000 barangay halls and all PCOO attached agencies nationwide in six months.

"It’s a very ambitious project kasi 42,000 ang nais nating lagyan ng Government Satellite Network," Andanar said.

"So ito po ay magiging proyekto ng PCOO, ng Office of the President, kasama na po iyong National Security Adviser, Secretary Esperon so… and then, we are already talking to DILG pati ang Department of National Defense para magamit po nila itong Government Satellite Network," he added.

He said the GSN can transmit government video, image, audio and data content even to islands and hinterlands and the rest of world using advanced satellite and IPTV (Internet Protocol television) technology.

—ALG, GMA News
