MIAA assistant general manager Allen Capuyan resigns

A top official of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) dragged into the alleged corruption at the Bureau of Customs (BOC) has resigned from his position.

"Manila International Airport Authority today confirmed the resignation of its former Assistant General Manager for Security & Emergency Services, Allen A. Capuyan," the airport authority said in a statement on Wednesday.

The MIAA executive's resignation took effect on Mar. 12, 2018.

"Capuyan in his letter addressed to MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal stated some future career moves as reason for resignation," the MIAA said.

Capuyan filed a leave of absence on Aug. 22, 2017 after alleged Customs fixer Mark Taguba described him as "big brother" and tagged him in the alleged corruption at the BOC during the Senate hearing into the smuggling of P6.4-million worth of shabu.

The MIAA said that operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport will not be affected by Capuyan's resignation as an officer-in-charge will takeover his vacated position.

"Replacing him in an OIC (officer-in-charge) capacity is MIAA Manager for Intelligence and Access Control, Arnulfo B. Junio," the airport authority said.

The resignation came after Presidential Peace Adviser Jesus Dureza's announcement that Capuyan will head a Mindanao-wide task force that will focus on concerns of indigenous peoples.

The Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process said Capuyan is a Manobo.

Dureza said in a statement that the proposed task force was presented by President Rodrigo Duterte in a recent Cabinet meeting in Malacañang.

Capuyan had served in Davao City as the Intelligence Service Unit chief. He was also part of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1983. —ALG, GMA News
