Palace on Hayley Atwell skipping PHL appearance: ‘Who's she?’

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque on Thursday scoffed at British-American actress Hayley Atwell's decision to cancel her appearance in this year’s ComicCon Asia in Manila due to “perceived political unrest” in the Philippines.

“Her loss and who’s she?” Roque said in a message to reporters.

The Palace official also said Atwell had the “wrong perception,” stressing there is no political unrest in the country.

Atwell, who played Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, announced her decision to skip the event slated this weekend through the event’s organizers, who apologized “for any trouble this may have caused.”

In its statement, ComicCon said that the convention remains a safe space for people and it will continue with its goal of "shining a light on Asian artistry and talent."

The organizers also vowed to provide refunds to customers who bought tickets to see the 35-year-old actress at the event.

Atwell had previously cancelled a trip to the Philippines in August 2016 for the second AsiaPOP Comicon, citing scheduling conflicts. —JST, GMA News
