ONE RANK HIGHER IN 2018

Duterte is 69th in World's Most Powerful list

President Rodrigo Duterte was ranked 69th in Forbes magazine's latest list of The World's Most Powerful People - a catalog of the 75 most influential men and women in the world.

Forbes' short report on Duterte mentioned his war on drugs; and his "raw and vulgar" rhetoric.

This is the second time the Philippine president made the list. He came in 70th in 2017.

Meanwhile, occupying the number one spot in 2018 was China's Xi Jinping, followed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, US President Donald Trump, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.

Also included in the top ten were: Pope Francis, philanthropist Bill Gates, Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, India's Narendra Modi, and Google's Larry Page.

The list, according to the Forbes website, "identifies one person out of every 100 million whose actions mean the most."

The magazine notes that Xi Jinping takes the top spot for the first time and unseats Putin, who was the "most powerful person" for four consecutive years.

The story will appear on the May 31, 2018 issue. — BAP, GMA News
