DILG submits report on election-related offenses to Comelec; Congress wants explanation

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on  Wednesday announced it has submitted to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) a report on alleged vote-buying incidents and other election-related offenses.

According to a report on Super Radyo dzBB by Olan Bola, the report contains issues raised by "concerned citizens" relayed to the office of DILG Undersecretary for Barangay Affairs Martin Diño.

DILG spokesperson and Assistant Secretary Jonathan Malaya was quoted as saying that the poll body is mandated to investigate the allegations.

Meanwhile, Congress also plans to call on Diño to further explain the vote-buying allegations.

Days before the May 14 polls, Diño had said that a number of election hotspots already pegged at 8,000 could still grow due to fresh reports of harassment and election-related violence.

He also said that his office had been receiving the reports through hotline numbers that some of the complaints were accompanied by videos of actual vote-buying and harassment. — Margaret Claire Layug/BAP, GMA News
