Kitty Duterte, Paolo’s wife, daughter received Dengvaxia shots — Bong Go

President Rodrigo Duterte's youngest child Veronica "Kitty" Duterte, his daughter-in-law and granddaughter have received shots of the controversial Dengvaxia vaccine, Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go clarified on Wednesday.

Go previously said Veronica, and two of former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte’s children, Uno and Sabina, got the anti-dengue vaccine.

Paolo’s wife, January Duterte, later clarified that only her and Sabina were administered with Dengvaxia, according to Go.

The Department of Health (DOH) stopped the government’s dengue immunization program last December following the admission of vaccine maker Sanofi Pasteur that the use of Dengvaxia must be strictly limited due to evidence it can worsen the disease in people who have not previously been exposed to dengue.

According to the DOH, around 891,000 children — aged nine and above — from public schools in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and Cebu were vaccinated with Dengvaxia since it was launched in April 2016.

Of this number, 87 children have died from dengue and other illnesses, the DOH said in a House inquiry on Tuesday.

On the same day, the House appropriations committee approved the bill seeking to allot P1.16 billion for medical aid for Dengvaxia recipients.

The President has since ordered the creation of a three-man panel of Asian health experts to look into safety concerns raised against Dengvaxia, the world’s first dengue vaccine. — Virgil Lopez/RSJ, GMA News
