Politicians among visitors to Mayor Halili’s wake

Politicians both local and national were among the visitors to the wake of slain Tanauan City, Batangas mayor Antonio Halili in a gym inside his family's compound, GMA News' Ian Cruz reported on News To Go on Wednesday.

The visitors included Batangas Governor Dodo Mandanas, Batangas Representative Vilma Santos and her husband, Senator Ralph Recto, who is also from Batangas.

Also present were Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano and Angeles City, Pampanga Mayor Ed Pamintuan, who, like Halili, are members of the League of Cities.

Asked to comment on President Rodrigo Duterte's claim that the killing of Halili may be drug-related, Santos, a former Batangas governor, said she'd rather remember her friendship with the slain mayor.

Halili, controversial for his shame campaign on suspected criminals including drug pushers, was killed on Monday morning while attending a flag-raising ceremony at the city hall. His burial is set for Sunday although details have yet to be released.

Duterte had earlier said Halili's killing may have something to do with his alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Halili's daughter, Angeline, however, said Duterte may have been misinformed, insisting that her father was a staunch anti-drug advocate.

Police investigators already have three "persons of interest" regarding the killing. —KBK, GMA News
