Duterte frat brod named Comelec commissioner

President Rodrigo Duterte has named a fraternity brother to complete the seven-man Commission on Elections (Comelec), his top aide said.

Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go told GMA News Online that Duterte appointed Justice Undersecretary Antonio Kho Jr. to fill in the post vacated by now Chairman Sheriff Abas.

Like Abas, Kho will serve in the Comelec until February 2022.

Kho, a member of San Beda University-based Lex Talionis Fraternitas, is Duterte’s fourth appointee in the poll body.

Last November, Duterte elevated then-commissioner Abas to chairman following the resignation of Andres Bautista amid allegations of ill-gotten wealth.

The President in April tapped former Court of Appeals Associate Justice Socorro Inting, who hails from the President’s hometown, Davao City.

Abas and Inting secured the nod of the powerful Commission on Appointments in May.

Duterte on June 18 named Marlon Casquejo, a former assistant regional director of Comelec-Davao, as successor to retired Commissioner Christian Robert Lim. —KBK, GMA News
