Australian nun Patricia Fox attends Mass days after deportation order

Australian nun Patricia Fox appeared at a unity Mass organized by opposition groups on Monday, four days after the Bureau of Immigration ordered her deportation for alleged violations of her missionary visa.

Fox attended the Mass at St. Peter’s Parish on Commonwealth Avenue on Monday morning, hours before the start of President Rodrigo Duterte’s third State of the Nation Address.

In a resolution dated July 19, the BI decided that the 71-year-old nun was an undesirable alien, ordered her deportation to Australia and the inclusion of her name in the bureau's blacklist, barring her from reentering the Philippines.

This development came close to two months after the Department of Justice, through Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, reversed an earlier BI order that forfeited Fox's missionary visa for having no legal basis.

Fox has appealed the deportation order, saying the BI “prejudged” her case since her attendance at political activities violated no rule in her visa. —KBK, GMA News
