Duterte to bureaucracy: Implement anti-red tape law faithfully

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday ordered all government agencies to faithfully implement the law against red tape, calling particular attention to state offices he accused of having a "lousy and corrupt bureaucracy."

"We need to sustain our momentum and I hereby direct all government units -  makinig sana kayo - and government agencies to faithfully implement this law and simplify the process," Duterte said in his third State of the Nation Address.

"Hinihingi ko ho yan sa lahat ng nasa gobyerno under my control and supervision."

He specifically ordered state agencies "with the number of red tape-related reprots from the public" to make their services "truly customer-friendly."

"Our people deserve efficient, effective and responsive services. They deserve nothing less. Kayo lang ayaw eh. gusto ng tao kayo ;yung binabayaran...make your living from the pockets of the people, and you have a lousy and corrupt bureaucracy," he said.

Duterte signed Republic Act 11032 or the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018 in May this year.

Duterte on corruption

Duterte lashed out at corruption and was quick to express his disapproval of thieves of public funds.

He likened corruption to a "leech," and said "love of money" was "corrosive."

"Stolen wealth does not make the thief respectable," Duterte said.

"Neither will the trappings of wealthy mask .... the stink that thievery exudes. One day, justice will catch up with those who steal government funds and when the day comes it will be the public who will have its retribution," he added. —NB, GMA News
