Prosecution, prevention, rehab antidotes to drug menace —Sotto

Senate President Vicente Sotto III said Saturday that prosecution, prevention and rehabilitation should be enhanced in handling the drug problem in the country.

According to Sotto, 80 percent of drug-related cases have been dismissed in the last six years.

“Di kumpleto ang enforcement ‘pag mahina ang prosecution,” he said on radio dwIZ.

“And then, madiin dapat yung prevention. Yung 12 or 13 (years old na bata) dapat edukado na sa droga. Dapat tinuturuan na…” he pointed out.

Sotto also said that there should be a prevention program for the parents to preempt their children's getting “hooked” on drugs.

Sotto urged government heighten enforcement of policies on rehabilitation.

“Adik ba kamo? Eh di rehab, pero dapat i-profile mo kung ano ang dapat sa kanya. Five to six year na sistema yan. Palakasin ang rehab,” he said.

When asked about his thoughts on Canada legalizing marijuana he said, “Di ako magtataka kung ang mga leader nila ay user.” —Joviland Rita/LBG, GMA News
