Trusted build of Election Management System turned over to Comelec

The trusted build of the Election Management System for next year's midterm elections has been turned over to the Commission on Elections.

The trusted build is a compilation of the readable text program reviewed by the International Certification Entity (ICE) in the US.

Comelec Commissioner Marlon Casquejo said the review showed there were no malicious codes inserted.

“Walang mangyayaring dayaan,” Casquejo said.

The trusted build was sealed inside a metal box and locked inside a ballot box, which will be stored at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

Meanwhile, the Comelec reiterated that it expects to come out with the final list of candidates for next year's midterm elections later this week.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said there are several issues and petitions that remain unresolved.

One major issue is on the Certificate of Nomination and Acceptance of several candidates.

“Kung meron kang CONA’ng ibinigay tapos nagpa-substitute ka tapos subsequently na-invalidate yung CONA mo, may consequence yon. All of a sudden, independent ka. Wala kang right of substitution. So yung substitute mo will have to be taken out from the list as well,” Jimenez said.

“It’s not simply about money. It’s not simply about whether or not the candidate is popular to begin with. There were some complex legal issues that were raised,” he added.

After the final list of candidates is released, possibly this Thursday or Friday, the Comelec’s target is to start printing the ballots before the year ends or on the first week of January. — Tina Panganiban-Perez/RSJ, GMA News
