Lorenzana backs plan to revive Bataan Nuclear Power Plant

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana on Friday said the proposed revival of the mothballed Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) will have no security implications to the country as he expressed support for the proposal.

"Wala naman akong nakikita [na security implications]," Lorenzana said at a press briefing in Malacañang. "It will just be revived to generate electricity."

Lorenzana said the Philippines has no capability to develop its own nuclear bomb.

He also said that if the revival will push through, as proposed by the Philippine Nuclear Research Institute, it will be good for the country.

"According to some experts na nakausap ko, puwede pa i-revive 'yan to produce electricity, and if they can do that I think it will be good for our people," he said.

"Mga 2000 megawatt kasi 'yan eh, 'yang nuclear plant sa Bataan." —Kaela Malig/KBK, GMA News
