Duterte says Christian belief in Trinity is ‘silly’

Arguing that there was only "one God," President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday took the opportunity to criticize the Christian doctrine of the Holy Trinity.

During a speech in Kidapawan City, Cotabato, Duterte remarked that the belief God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit was "silly."

"Magdasal ka na sa isang Diyos, magdasal ka pa dito sa mga santong y---," said the president.

"Isa lang ang Diyos. There’s only one God, period. You cannot divide God into three. That’s silly."

Duterte also questioned Jesus Christ's divinity, given that He died on the cross.

"‘Yung paano ka maka-concentrate na ‘yung Diyos mo pinako sa cross? T-ng-i--ng ‘yan...Nakakawala ng bilib. Ako ang Diyos tapos ipako mo ako? P---ng---a," he said.

The president went on to say that Allah is the only God.

"There’s only one God. It’s Allah. God the Father, period. Walang ibang Diyos sa akin. Only one God," Duterte said.

"Iyong iba, ‘yung mga Santa Catalina, Santa Ana, Santo Tomas, San Sebastian, Santo Rodrigo. Wala ‘yan. P---," he added, drawing laughter from the audience.
