Less trash churned out during Traslacion 2019, NCRPO chief says

Wednesday's Traslacion churned out less garbage than it did last year, according to National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Guillermo Eleazar.

“Sa ating assessment kung ico-compare last year mas malinis ngayon,” Eleazar told reporters.

Eleazar attributed the decline in the volume of trash both to the "no vendor" policy they have imposed and the efforts of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) personnel.

“At nakita natin yung kalat ng tao pero nakita naman namin na after maiwanan ng mga basura, ang bibilis ng MMDA sweepers. Nakukuha nila agad,” Eleazar said.

“Dahil kahit papaano nagpatupad tayo ng 'no vendor policy,'” he added.

However, several vendors were still seen around the Quiapo Church area despite the directive of the police for them to take a break during this year's Traslacion, which has so far drawn almost a million devotees.

“Pero ang daming pasaway... Kasi siyempre parang patintero yan e. Sisitahing mo,aalis, pero babalik din sila,” Eleazar said.

The NCRPO chief asked stubborn vendors to comply in the next Traslacions to minimize the amount of trash left in the streets during the festivities.

“Eh sana magbahagi sila ng kaunti na ibigay naman sa disiplina, para sa ating mga susunod na Traslacion e hindi na puro basura,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Manila police estimated taht around 800,000 Black Nazarene devotees have attended the masses at the Quiapo Church while the Traslacion is ongoing along Manila roads. — MDM, GMA News
