Consul in Maldives told to look into drowning of OFW couple


The honorary consul has been instructed to coordinate with the authorities in the Maldives as regards the recent drowning of an a newly wed Filipino couple at one of its resorts.

Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Elmer Cato said the honorary consul in the Maldives Abdulla Salih had also been instructed to secure the personal belongings of Leomer and Erika Joyce Lagradilla.

"We'll talk to the police. We have honorary consul in the maldives so he has been instructed to look into this," Cato told reporters.

"He has also been instructed doon sa personal effects ng mag asawa so we’ll help in bring those personal belongings back to their parents," he added.

Cato said the DFA would talk to Leomer and Erika's employers in Singapore and Saudi Arabia.

"We'll also talk to the employers tungkol sa benefits nila," Cato said. —NB, GMA News
