BOL PLEBISCITE

Comelec receives poll documents from Basilan province and Isabela City

The Certificates of Canvass and other election paraphernalia from Isabela City, Basilan and Basilan province—two of the areas where the plebiscite on the ratification of Bangsamoro Organic law (BOL)—reached the Commission on Elections (Comelec) headquarters in Manila on Thursday afternoon.

The poll documents from these areas were just the second and third batch, respectively, of election paraphernalia which reached the Comelec office in Manila for the official counting to be done by the Comelec en banc sitting as National Plebiscite Board of Canvassers.

A day before, the Certificate of Canvass and poll documents from Cotabato City reached the Comelec office in Manila for official tabulation.

The Comelec en banc led by Comelec Chairperson Sheriff Abas opened the official canvassing of votes on Wednesday a little past 2 p.m., paving the way for the opening of the ballot box containing the poll documents from Cotabato City.

The Certificate of Canvass from Cotabato City showed the "yes" vote winning against the "no" vote, 36,682 as against 24,994.

The Certificate of Canvass and other poll documents from Cotabato City, however, were turned over to the tabulation committee for verification for now since election officer and lawyer Rommel Rama failed to explain the erroneous entry on the number of voters who participated in the BOL plebiscite in Cotabato City as stated in the Cotabato City’s Certificate of Canvass which Rama and two other election officers signed.

The BOL replaces the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao with a Bangsamoro Autonomous Region with an expanded land and water jurisdiction, fiscal autonomy, and an increased share in national government resources, among others. — BM, GMA News
