AFTER WIN VS. BRONER

Pacquiao attends Senate session, thanks public, colleagues for support

Senator Manny Pacquiao on Monday thanked Filipinos and his colleagues for supporting him during his match against American boxer Adrien Broner last week.

“Nagpapasalamat po ako sa sambayanang Pilipino sa pagmamahal at suporta. Kayo pong lahat ang aking inspirasyon. I deeply appreciate your prayers, your love, and support,” Pacquiao said in a manifestation as he attended his first session after the  fight in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao, 40, beat the younger Broner by unanimous decision.

He also thanked his fellow senators “for the resolution of commendation and congratulations on my recent victory against Broner.”

The Senate's Resolution 992 lauded Pacquiao “for bringing honor and glory to the Philippines, spurring the Filipino pride, and inspiring people of all walks of life that victory comes at any age for those who work hard, persevere, and have faith.”

Pacquiao also took the opportunity to express his joy as the country celebrates National Bible Day on January 28, the last Monday of the month.

President Rodrigo Duterte declared the National Bible Day as a special working holiday in the country by virtue of Republic Act 11163, which was signed into law on December 20, 2018.

“As the main author and sponsor of this legislation, I am grateful for the support of all our colleagues, partners, and staff in the Senate and the House of Representatives. The National Bible Day will be an annual celebration. In the coming years we will make the celebration bigger,” Pacquiao said.

“We will invite and encourage our partners in the public and private sectors, as well as learning institutions, to celebrate in their own special way,” he added.
