Amid measles outbreak, DOH says dengue cases also up


Amid the measles outbreak, the number of dengue cases in the country also rose this year, the Department of Health secretary Francisco Duque III confirmed on Monday.

From January 1 to 26 this year, the reported cases of dengue reached  12,431 cases. There were only 11,865 dengue cases for the same period in 2018.

Region IV-A has the highest number of Dengue cases with 1, 903 cases or 15% of the total number.

While National capital Region (NCR) came second with 1, 793 cases, followed by Region VII with 1, 657 cases.

The number of Dengue cases rose at 5 percent compared last year.

However, the number of deaths due to dengue was lower for the period this year with 49 deaths from January 1 to 26, compared to 59 deaths last year. —NB, GMA News
