Sara respects President Duterte's choice not to endorse whole Hugpong slate

LAOAG CITY — Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte says she has no ill-feelings that her father, President Rodrigo Duterte, did not endorse all the Senate bets of her regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago.

"Si Presidente ang pinakamataas na opisyal. May karapatang siyang pumili ng kanyang Senators. Member rin siya ng PDP-Laban, and he has personal choices. Respetuhin natin 'yun," she said.

"Yung Hugpong, PDP-Laban...may magkakaibang entries pero lahat 'yun in a way, sinusuportan ang isa't isa. Hindi nga lang isa [ang listahan] ng common candidates," she added.

The elder Duterte did not endorse the Senate bid of three Hugpong bets: former Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon "Bong" Revilla, Jr., and former broadcaster Jiggy Manicad.

Meanwhile, the mayor also said Hugpong is standing by its decision to field 13 Senate bets or more than the 12 Senate seats at stake, saying that it would be cruel to turn down those who seek help.

"13 kasi sila 'yung mga nakipag-alyansa [mula sa iba't ibang partido. Iniisip natin, we don't want to be unkind. Wala sa posisyon na magsabi ang HNP ng hindi [ka namin matutulungan]," she said.

"Kung nakikipag-alyansa, nakikipagkaibigan... ang naging desisyon ng partido ay tulungan," she added.

The Hugpong slate includes:
  • Senator Sonny Angara
  • Senator JV Ejercito
  • Senator Cynthia Villar
  • Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III
  • Taguig Representative Pia Cayetano
  • former Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla, Jr.
  • former Senator Jinggoy Estrada
  • former journalist Jiggy Manicad
  • former Special Assistant to the President Christopher "Bong" Go
  • former Philippine National Police Chief Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa
  • former Presidential Adviser for Political Affairs Francis Tolentino
  • Maguindanao Representative Dong Mangudadatu
  • Ilocos Norte Governor Marcos
