Pacquiao says he's finishing college degree but 2022 run not yet on his mind

Filipino boxing icon and Senator Manny Pacquiao on Wednesday bared that he is finishing a college degree even as he dismissed that it is in preparation for seeking a higher office in 2022.

"Yes, nag-aaral ako," Pacquiao told ANC in an interview. "The most important thing is alam mo 'yung sitwasyon ng problema ng bansa natin."

Asked regarding graduation, Pacquiao, who came from a poor family in General Santos City, said, "Malapit na."

The 40-year-old lawmaker refused to  divulge the school where he is studying, hinting only that it is in Metro Manila. He also said at present he is busy preparing a "Powerpoint presentation on economics."

"Tinatapos ko ang college ko, dito lang sa Maynila," he said.

Despite this, Pacquiao said seeking a higher office in 2022 — the next presidential elections — is not yet on his mind, adding his current focus is thinking of ways to address some of the country's problems like poverty and high tax rates.

"Sa ngayon hindi ko iniisip yung thing about running [in] 2022. Alam mo ang iniisip ko ang solusyon sa mga problema sa bansa natin," he said.

Pacquiao also said he enjoys being a senator and at the same time a boxer.

"Masaya ako bilang senador, gampanan trabaho ko. Nagbibigay ako ng karangalan sa ating bansa. Masaya ako dyan. Yun ang nasa puso," Pacquiao said.

"Thinking about higher [position], wala sa isip ko," he added. —KBK, GMA News
