DFA says German TV report on Locsin’s Hitler remarks ‘biased, misleading’

The Department of Foreign Affairs on Friday branded as "biased and misleading" a German television news report that appeared to show Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. supporting President Rodrigo Duterte's comparison of Filipino drug personalities getting killed to the holocaust perpetrated by Adolf Hitler.

"The Department views as unfortunate the biased representation by Mr. Arnd Henze of ARD Capital Studio Berlin of his interview with Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro L. Locsin, Jr. at the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the new building of the Philippine Embassy in Berlin," the DFA statement read.

"The video posted by Mr. Henze on his blog is incomplete and misleading... It failed to show Mr. Henze's deliberate attempts to provoke Secretary Locsin into giving controversial remarks," it added.

Germany on Thursday protested Locsin's remarks to the German television network.

Philippine Embassy in Berlin’s Charge d’Affaires Lilibeth Pono was summoned by Germany’s Foreign Ministry over what it called Locsin’s “totally unacceptable” comments.

Henze, on Twitter, said: “In our interview, Philippines’ Foreign Minister embraced remarks of President Duterte about Hitler and slaughtering 3 million drug addicts."

He also posted in the same tweet the previous statements made by Locsin on Twitter since 2016 over the issue, pointing out that “it’s not the first time he made extremely offensive comments” with reference to the Holocaust wherein at least 6 million Jews were killed.  —NB, GMA News
