Mountaineer Abenojar recovering from frostbite in Kathmandu

Mountaineer Dale Abenojar, whose wife has claimed that he was the first Filipino to reach the summit of Mount Everest, is in Kathmandu, Nepal, where he is recovering from frostbite. Abenojar’s claim remains unverified and there are no records yet that he has reached the summit, or when if he did. He has also not made it to the list of Elizabeth Hawley, who keeps track of Mt. Everest expeditions. GMA’s Jiggy Manicad reported on Wednesday that he went to see Abenojar in the Nepalese capital, but the climber declined to give details on his expedition, saying he still had to check with his public relations consultant. Manicad reported that a toe in Abenojar's right foot was wrapped in bandage and doctors were still deciding on whether to continue treatment or to amputate the toe. The mountaineer’s Nepalese Sherpa guides were also hurting. One Sherpa was said to be likewise suffering from frostbite and another was complaining of blindness after he removed his sunglasses at one stage of the ascent. It is recognized that Leo Oracion was the first Filipino to reach the summit of the world's highest mountain on May 17. He was followed by Pastor Emata on May 18 and Romi Garduce on May 19. Oracion, Emata, and Garduce all took the south trail via Nepal. Abenojar took the north trail via Tibet, China.-GMANews.TV
