Latest drug war death toll: 5,281 killed, 176,021 arrested as of Feb. 2019


Authorities on Wednesday disclosed that a total of 5,281 suspected drug personalities have been killed in the government’s war on drugs since President Rodrigo Duterte assumed office in 2016.

At a press conference, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency spokesman Derrick Carreon said 176,021 drug suspects have been arrested during the 123,441 operations conducted.

The data reflected the operations from July 1, 2016 to February 28, 2019.

Of the total number of suspected drug personalities arrested, 638 were government workers.

Of that number, 264 were elected officials, 74 were uniformed personnel and 300 were government employees.

Meanwhile, Carreon also said 3,735.27 kilograms of shabu worth P21.41 billion were confiscated during those operations.

He also said a total of 309 dens and clandestine laboratories were dismantled by authorities.

Meanwhile, 11,437 barangays were already cleared from illegal drugs, Carreon said, while a total of 21,755 barangays still needed to be cleared.

Moreover, a total of 2,098 children aged four to 17 years old have been rescued during anti-illegal drugs operations. —KBK, GMA News
