The camp of senatorial candidate Mar Roxas urged the public to stick to the truth in the face of accusations that the former Interior Secretary mishandled funds meant for the victims of super typhoon Yolanda.
Caloocan City Representative Edgar Erice, who serves as Roxas' campaign manager, made the remark on Thursday after Senator Panfilo Lacson said that Roxas had nothing to do with the supposed mishandling of funds.
"I would like to correct that perception. Wala naman talaga siyang [Roxas] kinalaman sa pondo ng Yolanda," Lacson said Thursday, adding that he lamented that Roxas has become the "poster boy of Yolanda," with President Rodrigo Duterte accusing him of fund misuse.
In a statement, Erice thanked Lacson.
Lacson said the accusation of mishandling Yolanda funds is unfair to Roxas, saying that it was the local government units that handled the cash assistance for fund victims.
"'Yung DILG [Department of the Interior and Local Government], nag-provide ng cash assistance sa mga local government units, and dumaan lang naman sa kanya 'yun," he said.
Erice called on the public to not be persuaded by "fake news" when they choose their senators in the May elections.
— BM, GMA News
