LTO eyes decals for front license plates under Doble Plaka law

The front license plates that will be given to motorcycle riders under the recently enacted Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act will not be made of metal.

According to Cedric Castillo's report on "24 Oras", the Land Transportation Office said they will be stickers or decals that shall be placed in front of motorcycles.

"Ididikit mo ito. Hindi naman ito basta liliparin," LTO chief Assistant Secretary Edgar Galvante said.

Motorcycle riders have registered their protest against the law and its provision on motorcycles having license plates both at the front and rear.

They raised the safety implication of having a metal license plate in front of their motorcycles, saying these could get detached and cause cuts, even fatal injuries, to riders.

With the LTO pushing for license plate decals, some riders still have their apprehensions considering the stiff fines and imprisonment provided for riders who would not comply.

"Maranming klase ng motor, Iba-iba ang placement... If I ride a Duke 390, wala talaga akong makitang pagdidikitan," said Edwin Cua, vice president of the Luzon Motorcyclists Federation. —NB, GMA News
